How the Study Works

Everyday Objects is a Bible study that uses visual association with objects we see in our daily life to memorize God's word. Very simply:
1. You see an object
2. A word comes to mind (any word, not just 'Spiritual' words), 3. Using a Bible Concordance, you find & study a verse in the Bible that has that word understanding the context & application to your life.
4. Everytime you see that object, you try to recall the verse or the Biblical application to your life.

The study uses things we see everyday to guide us into and remind us of God's Word.
Example:
When you see a coffee pot, you may think of the word morning or cup. You use a condordance to look up verses with the word morning or cup & study the verse--trust me, both those words are in the Bible. You pick one verse & do a study on that verse. Then, through the week, every time you see a coffee pot you try to remember the verse and application. Before you know it, you'll have the verse memorized! The more objects you do, the more verses you'll remember and the more of God's Word you'll be hiding in your heart & mind! It's that easy.

Week 1 - Flip Flops

My Word: toes

My Scripture: Daniel 2:41,42

Personal application: I learned 1.) David responded with "wisdom & tact" to King Nebuchadnezzar when he was being completely unreasonable and rash (v14)--I could learn from that! ;-) 2.) There is a God in heaven (alone) who reveals mysteries; He alone has ultimate wisdom, 3.) A commentary pointed out that Daniel worked a "secular" job, but devloted much time to study & preaching, and 4.) God has ultimate reign over all nations (a good reminder these days!)

Now when I see flip flops, I'll think of toes, which will lead me to thinking of my verse in Daniel, which will remind me of God's ultimate reign over all nations! PTL!

  1. Hi and God Bless!
I chose comfort as my word and found the verse in Isaiah 66:13 that says, " As a mother comforts her child , so I will comfort you; ans you will be comforted over Jerusalem". Isaiah warned Israel that her wickedness would be punished, yet he would provide a savior for Jew and Gentile alike. Praise God for his Grace! Looking forward to another week. Sheri

  2. My word = Free
    My verse = Gal. 5:1
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm then and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."

This means that as Christians we are free from the old legalistic rules, free from sin, desires and trying to 'work' our way into heaven.

For me this means freedom from fear, envy and self. This means I can be free to do God's will and produce fruit through the Holy Spirit instead of trying to produce 'Corporate America' approved work. The fruit of my labors may not be recognized at work but will in heaven by my Lord.
I need to FLIP my focus from earthly to heavenly.

  3. Beth says:

    My word: Refreshing or refreshed
    My verse: Jeremiah 31:25
"For I satishfy the weary ones and refresh everyone who languishes (has a sorrowful soul, or the faint)

This, as I found out, is a promise of restoration after exile (though promised before exile! - think - trials!) Over and over in chapter 31 it spoke of "grace in the wilderness", "by supplication I will lead them", "they will be radiant over the bounty of the Lord", and "their life will be like a watered garden". And I LOVE gardens!

Now when I see sandals, I will think of the refreshment of the Lord in hard places. God knows how I need that! Praise you Lord!

  4. My word: feet
My verse: Luke 7:38 ..."and stood at His feet behind Him weeping, and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and annointed them with the fragrant oil."

Personal application: I will be asking Jesus to reveal to me the bondages that I have that keep me from fully serving Him with all that I have and all that I am. He wants all of my "self-protected/built-in" barriers/walls that keep me safe from the judgements of others to come tumbling down (like the walls of Jerico) so that He may have full victory. My prayer is that it will be a gentle process.

  5. From Wendy Bailey:
The word I choose was feet. The scripture was Ruth 3:14 in which Ruth is lying at Boaz' feet trying to get him to redeem her. Spiritual meaning was for me to lay at Jesus' feet and wait for Him to respond to provide my needs.

  6. From Charlotte Buster:
    Word: Feet
Verse: Matthew 10:14 “And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.”
Personal Application: In witnessing, we need to be prepared that some will not receive us and will not hear our words when sharing the gospel of the glory of Christ. Contempt of the gospel and contempt of gospel ministers, commonly go together and they will either of them be construed into a contempt of Christ and will be reckoned for accordingly.
As we set out upon our missions….we should approach all and pray for all with the love of Christ. He will show us along the way who are the wolves in sheep clothing. When we find those that are willing and eager to hear the gospel of the glory of Christ, we are to stay and minister to them for their full understanding. But, if we meet with resistance and the rudeness of their rejecting the gospel, we are to avoid such that trample the pearls of the gospel under their feet….we are not to eat nor drink with them. We are to have the heart to share the redemptive love of Christ with others, but when it is made obvious that we are being slighted (they are rejecting Christ) by someone who has no desire to hear the Good News, we are to back out of the situation and to leave it in God’s Hands….Who will be their Judge. I am so grateful that the Lord asks us only to share His precious Word and not to convert people also…..We do the sharing and His Spirit will do the converting. In His Grace, Charlotte

    Word: Shoes/sandals
Verse: Exodus 3:5 Then He said, "Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground."

Because of God's presence, the ground was set apart and holy. So are we, because of God's presence in us. God called Moses from the burning bush, and Moses answered "here I am". God told Moses He would use him to deliver His people from Egypt, and would give Moses the words to say.
Personal application: I am set apart and holy, and I serve an awesome God who gives me the power and ability to do what He says.

    Word: Sandal
Verse: Genesis 14:23 That I will not take a thread or a sandal thong, or anything that is yours, for fear you would say, "I have made Abram rich".
God had riches in plan for Abram later. Abram was not to take what the King of Sodom had to offer, but what God had to offer.
Personal application: Don't take what the world has to offer, but God's offer.

  9. Word: SAND
Verse: Gen 22:17 Blessing I will bless you and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven and as the SAND on the seashore and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies.

I recently returned from Eastern Europe. Among the places I visited were Poland, where WW2 began and the Czech Republic where only 10,000 of Prague's 120,000 Jews survived the war. In spite of multiple, large-scale persecutions over time, Abraham's seed numbers >13.3 million today and is spread over a vastly greater (and continually shifting) landscape than Abraham could have envisioned. God is faithful to keep His promises.

Personal application: God takes a 'long view' of history. He will accomplish His purpose/plan and he does keep His promises. Sometimes hardship leads us to new places we wouldn't have reached otherwise.
