How the Study Works

Everyday Objects is a Bible study that uses visual association with objects we see in our daily life to memorize God's word. Very simply:
1. You see an object
2. A word comes to mind (any word, not just 'Spiritual' words), 3. Using a Bible Concordance, you find & study a verse in the Bible that has that word understanding the context & application to your life.
4. Everytime you see that object, you try to recall the verse or the Biblical application to your life.

The study uses things we see everyday to guide us into and remind us of God's Word.
Example:
When you see a coffee pot, you may think of the word morning or cup. You use a condordance to look up verses with the word morning or cup & study the verse--trust me, both those words are in the Bible. You pick one verse & do a study on that verse. Then, through the week, every time you see a coffee pot you try to remember the verse and application. Before you know it, you'll have the verse memorized! The more objects you do, the more verses you'll remember and the more of God's Word you'll be hiding in your heart & mind! It's that easy.

Week 2 - Laundry

Word: Clothes, folded
Verse: John 20:5-8 "And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed."
Facts: The body could not have been stolen because the linens were neatly folded! John's comprehension of the resurrection at the site of the clothes.
Spiritual: The reality of Jesus resurrection; the details God attends to. The rest of chapter 20 tells about Jesus' patience with the disciples in helping them realize the reality of his resurrection.
Application: I don't think I'll look at a pile of my kids clothes on the floor or fold them without remembering this passage and try to comprehend the reality of the resurrection. He is not dead, He is risen!

  1. My word was "FRESH".
Verse: Job 29:20, "My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand."
Facts: Job after being stripped of riches and honor was mourning about the loss of his previous state, his health, his honor and prosperity among his peers. He did not have to start from square one every day. He succeeded in all he accomplshed, according to Spurgeon's notes.
Root: Hebrew-fresh: chadash To renew; make new or repair.
Applied: I looked up Lamentations 3:22 & 23, because I remembered the word "new" in there...22: 'It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed , because his compassions fail not. 23:They are new every morning...' and "new" is the same reference as "fresh" in Job 29:20. Because of the finished work on the cross, I don't have to strive to receive His refreshing Love and Comfort because I can just ask for it from Him each and every morning. Selah!

  2. Great insight, Eileen. Do you think that also Jesus was a tidy person?!

  3. Laundry Basket: carry, gather, organized
    scripture/concordance word CARRY

    1) to take up with the hands
    2) to take up in order to carry or bear, to put upon one's self (something) to be carried
    a) to bear what is burdensome
    3) to bear, to carry
    a) to carry on one's person
    b) to sustain, i.e. uphold, support
    4) to bear away, carry off
Galatians 6 (Commentary by Jon Courson)
    Bear and Share the Burdens
1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens (greek word definition as a wallop to the chest, or a hit by the enemy), and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when(the word “when” not “if”, because you” are” nothing) he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. (Do what God has put in front of you.)5 For each one shall bear his own load (soldier’s pack -as in every soldier should bear/carry their own pack /we should not have others always carry our pack).
Facts: Paul says the spiritual man will cover a multitude of sins, the carnal man will legalize and want to show the sin.
    Spiritual message conveyed:
Burden or load? a real distinction! - walloped by the enemy or bearing a soldier’s pack.
But there are times when we are walloped. God give us wisdom. You need to share with the body that concern. Then, if you’re taking in, then reciprocate. Those that give to you spiritually, you give back materially.
Personally: I need to make that distinction between the wallop to the chest and a soldier’s pack. My complaining tendencies lead me to assume it’s a wallop to the chest by the enemy far more often than a “load” that I should carry.
Lord, give me wisdom. Help me to know that you know all my grief. That you have designed me to carry the soldier’s pack and to share those burdens with the body that are truly burdens. Also, that I may carry the burdens of others when they are made known to me.

  4. I listed about 20 words that immediately came to mind; task, chore, duty, finished, diligence etc. Then in Acts 20:35 I noted-It is more blessed to GIVE than receive. GIVE became my word. Giving is not just chores/work. For me its keeping my eyes on the Lord, thanking him for my blessings and GIVE by exhibiting self control and harmony even when the flesh cries out otherwise. This is so hard especially when you "feel justified" (oh those lil rotten feelings)...so in my dirty laundry basket I put all my angst, anxiety, and internal tourmoil, which I then asked God to "launder". So now ladies doing laundry is really the restoration of my body, spirit, and soul, so I can GIVE and bless others joyously without complaint. Each object I fold, I have an opportunity to let go!

    Word: Out of Control
Verse: Exodus 32:25 “Moses saw that the people were running wild and that Aaron had let them get out of control and so become a laughing stock to their enemies.”
Study: This was an interesting journey for me. My first natural reaction was irritation, overwhelming, “why aren’t they folded!!!” I was obviously heading to a very negative place. So the words “Out of Control” came to mind. God is the strong basket of grace and patience who lovingly holds our unruly and out of control lives. We need to allow Him to pick us up and fold our lives so we can be placed in His Kingdom. His love for us in never ending just like laundry.
Application: Allow God “to fold” our out-of-control lives. Without Him, our messy pile gets bigger and bigger

    Word: Clothes/clothed
    Verses: Ezekial 15:8-14
This passage shows how God took Jerusalem, who was initially ugly and filthy and unloveable, and made her beautiful. He clothed her in fine clothing and jewelry. She ate fine food. She was famed for her beauty, because it was from His splendor which He gave to her.
In my Nelson Study Bible, the gifts God gave to Jerusalem were the gifts that a groom gave to his bride. We are the bride of Christ. He has given us these fine gifts, and we are beautiful, because He has given us His beauty and splendor.

    My word: weary
    Verses:
Isaiah 40:31 "But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
    and
Isaiah 50:4 "The Lord GOD has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, he awakens My ear to hear as the learned."
Application: Since I was literally laughing out loud with joy and amazement at particularly the second verse, I never made it to the facts of the scripture or the spiritual meaning. It was a DIRECT answer to prayer about a new Titus 2 partnership I was considering. I initially applied it out of context, in that the Lord showed me that He was restoring me during my time of waiting, and that the ministry partnership was something I could NOT do apart from His calling or empowering. In the second verse, He said He would enable me to speak a word in season to a weary woman and that He would awaken her ear to hear what He would give me to say! I was very humbled to discover that the "Me" and "My" of the verse were capitalized. It was pointing to JESUS! It made me consider how He is conforming me to His image, enough to recognize that He would be my strength in this ministry.

  8. Word: Clean
"Woe to you teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence."
In this scripture the cup is used to resemble our Christian faith/life. Jesus is condemning the Pharisee and leaders for appearing saintly or holy on the outside... but really being corrupt and greedy.
We need to be Christians that are clean on the outside (the part that everyone sees) and clean on the inside (the part thats hidden that God sees) We need not be fake on the outside....we need to be a reflection of Christ inside and out. So a toothbrush to mean will mean more to me now every time I pick kit up and use. It will serve as a daily reminder to be clean in Gods eyes inside and out.
