How the Study Works

Everyday Objects is a Bible study that uses visual association with objects we see in our daily life to memorize God's word. Very simply:
1. You see an object
2. A word comes to mind (any word, not just 'Spiritual' words), 3. Using a Bible Concordance, you find & study a verse in the Bible that has that word understanding the context & application to your life.
4. Everytime you see that object, you try to recall the verse or the Biblical application to your life.

The study uses things we see everyday to guide us into and remind us of God's Word.
Example:
When you see a coffee pot, you may think of the word morning or cup. You use a condordance to look up verses with the word morning or cup & study the verse--trust me, both those words are in the Bible. You pick one verse & do a study on that verse. Then, through the week, every time you see a coffee pot you try to remember the verse and application. Before you know it, you'll have the verse memorized! The more objects you do, the more verses you'll remember and the more of God's Word you'll be hiding in your heart & mind! It's that easy.

Week 5 - Welcome Mat

Word: Welcome
Verse: Matthew 10:14 (NIV)" If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town."
Facts: Interestingly, this passage is also found in Mark & Luke, and another reference to the disciples carrying out Jesus' direction is found in Acts. Jesus directed the disciples on what to do if the people rejected their message. To paraphrase verse 13 & 14, 'be courteous and gracious but if they don't accept it, move on.'
Application: This passage was once used out of context by a church I attended long ago so I was sensitive to it. The word welcome was translated "received" and I found upon further research: to mean 'gladly received,' 'had a warm reception,' 'joy brining.' This time, the verse spoke to me about attitude--my attitude--toward God's Word. In my heart I found myself asking 'do I gladly receive (with joy & a warm reception) all of God's Word or, conversely, do I reject any part of it?

    Word: Useful
    Verse: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17.
    I really liked this passage in particular. It speaks to me personally. It really shows me how much of a priviledge it is to own a bible and be able to read it and apply it in my life. The Bible needs to be our model resource for evaluating things in our life that are true or false. It needs to be our number one source of instruction for how we can be saved as Christians. God gives us so much in the Bible to equip ourselves through many tribulations and trials that we will face or have faced already. Our knowledge of Gods word is not useful unless it takes us somewhere and strengthens our faith to lead us to do good. So I pray this welcome mat be an everyday sign of "usefulness" that Gods word needs to be in all of our lives.

    Application: The Word of God is from God, altho delivered by men. We need to treat it as God's word, not man's word. And because it is God's Word, it will work in us, it is not "just words".
